Physical Characteristics of Turtles


The bodies of turtles are covered with a thick shell. The head, tail and legs can extend out of this hard shell and thus they can feed and move. With their aquatic and terrestrial species, turtles are slow creatures that have won the sympathy of almost everyone. They reproduce by spawning and hatch their eggs from the fertilized eggs by hiding them in suitable soils. Let's sum up the general characteristics of these creatures, which can see almost a few generations of people with their long lives. -

Turtles are vertebrates. It has a skeletal system hidden in its body inside the hard shell.

- Turtles are one of the oldest creatures on earth. It has been scientifically proven that they lived on Earth 200 million years ago.
- Turtles are very hardy creatures. It is the most resistant creature to high heat, cold and hunger.


How Long Do Turtles Live?

- It has attracted attention with its long life. Their approximate lifespan varies between 150-200 years.

- They are spread all over the world, but not only in Antarctica.

 

Do Turtles Hibernate?

- Some tortoises hibernate like bears and snakes. They spend the winter by burying themselves underground all year. Sea turtles, on the other hand, dive into the depths of the sea and wait there for the summer to come.

- Even though turtles tear hard objects, contrary to popular belief, they do not have teeth. The tooth has been replaced by the jaw, which consists of a hard cartilage structure. With this hard jaw, they shred their food. Considering that they feed on hard shellfish in the sea, they have a very strong mouth structure.

- Although their senses of sight and smell are highly developed, they cannot hear sounds very well.

- Turtles have 5 fingers on their feet and these fingers are mobile. Sea turtles have webbed toes that facilitate swimming, and in some turtles they are adjacent to each other.
