Rapunzel is a fairy tale about a couple who longed to have a child. They lived next to a garden that belonged to an evil witch. The garden had some delicious-looking rapunzel lettuce that the wife craved for. The husband sneaked into the garden and stole some lettuce for his wife, but he was caught by the witch. She agreed to let him go on one condition: he had to give her their unborn child.
The witch named the child Rapunzel and locked her up in a tower when she grew up. The tower had no stairs or doors, only a window at the top. The witch would visit Rapunzel every day by climbing up her long golden hair. One day, a prince heard Rapunzel singing from the tower and fell in love with her voice. He learned how to climb up her hair and met her secretly.
They planned to escape together, but the witch found out and cut off Rapunzel's hair. She banished Rapunzel to a desert and waited for the prince in the tower. When he came, she threw him down from the window and he became blind from thorns. He wandered around for years until he heard Rapunzel's voice again. They reunited and Rapunzel's tears restored his sight.
They returned to his kingdom and lived happily ever after.
